Jelly

Jelly was what you could call one of Wolf Hollow's elder wolves. Always seen running laps in her enclosure, constantly drinking tons of water, jumping up in excitement to see volunteers and being her crazy, hyperactive self, Jelly always seemed much younger than her age. Jelly was the sister of our late alpha male, Weeble. She lived alone "outback" next to Osa and Bear. She was light grayish silver in color with dark amber eyes; a lot like Weeble, but much thinner, sleek and more feminine.

Jelly grew up doing what Jelly wanted, so needless to say she was a bratty wolf. Stealing food from other wolves, body slamming into them, beating up her brother... typical bratty sister. Sound about right? Because of this, Jelly lived alone and she loved it this way! In the wild she may have been what is called a "lone wolf." Most of the time, wolves need companionship with other wolves and they naturally fear humans. Jelly seemed to hate other wolves, but absolutely loved humans! Her bizarre and completely unique personality made her a favorite to volunteers and visitors.

Jelly was always very active and very social with the volunteers. During the winter she went into her usual grumpy Jelly mode. She growled more often, becoming very territorial and protective over her "stuff" in the enclosure. There were times when she had leftover deer parts in there for months and no one was allowed to go near them. She even tried to steal the stick used to tip her water bucket for cleaning and refilling or for removing ice blocks. She growled at the stick and, once the ice was out, she tried to grab the stick with her mouth and carry it away to her safe spots.

From the time her brother, our alpha, Weeble, had passed away, Jelly seemed to be just as aware of the change as the rest of the wolves, regardless of which enclosure they occupied. Still, Jelly's behaviors did not change. Jelly was stress free with no one to disagree with or have to share with. When volunteers visited Jelly in her enclosure, she was smothered with their affection, attention and treats. Jelly returned their affection with long, sloppy, face-washing kisses... when she wasn't growling or busy stealing and protecting something. All the wolves at Wolf Hollow keep the volunteers thinking fast, working hard, always trying to anticipate anything that could possibly happen. Jelly especially, being "crazy and all kinds of different," kept many smiling and taught lessons that were carried beyond the boundaries of Wolf Hollow.
