2005 — 2015
Nina
Nina and her sister Osa were born to Erin and Chetan at Wolf Park in Battle Ground, Indiana in the spring of 2005. Like all our wolves, they came to us at ten days old to be hand raised and live out their lives. For a while, it was only Nina and her mate Weeble living in the main enclosure. At the age of six she was introduced to five wolf puppies she would be raising as her own. As we thought, Nina stepped up and did a beautiful job as an adoptive mother. During the 2013 winter, tragedy struck: her lifelong mate, Weeble, passed away. This left Nina as sole alpha leading the pack on her own.
For some time we thought she might allow one of the males to step up, but she never did. She was a strong symbol; a single parent who raised a strong family. Nina was independent, fierce, the "land shark," and she taught her adoptive children well. Her and Weeble's legacies lived on through them.
